Flower Pens
Flower Pot Crafts
These flower pens are so easy to make but they look so pretty when they are completed! They make great gifts or they look great displayed in your home, everyone will be so surprised when they are looking for a pen and you point to your flower pot with the beautiful flowers! I have made so many of these flowers with the clay pots and people are just thrilled, they cannot say enough how much they like it.
SUPPLIES:
Plastic ball point pens (the best are the white plastic pens with the small black button at the top that you can pop off)
Plastic ball point pens (the best are the white plastic pens with the small black button at the top that you can pop off)
Silk flowers (any color or kind you would like)
Floral tape
glue gun
scissors
flower pot
dried beans (smaller ones work better)
paint (optional)
clear coat spray (optional)
Step 1
Pop off the black button at the top of the pens, sometimes those little buttons are difficult and sometimes I use pliers and squeeze the top the pen until the button starts lifting up. This is probably the most time consuming part and the more you do it, the better you'll get.
Step 2
Cut the flower stems leaving about 2 inches of the stem, this too will get easier the more you do it, eventually you will beable to eyeball the correct length.
Step 3
Take your glue gun and place a small ring of glue around the stem of the flower at the base of the flower. Immediately put the flower stem into the pen casing (the place you popped the black button off of). Hold the flower just for a few second so that the glue on the base of flower adheres to the pen.
Step 4
Take the floral tape (do not cut a length, just roll it off the tape roll) and start at the buttom of the pen when the point is, hold the end of the tape down with your finger and start wrapping the tape so that it first catches the end and holds it down. Make your way up the pen wrapping around the pen and pinching the tape as you go along (floral tape is fairly sticky so there is no need to glue it). When you get to the top of the pen where the flower is, cut the floral tape and give it a little press so it sticks. Your flower is done! Make as many as you would like!
Step 5
Paint your flower pot. This is completely optional and the clay pots do look really cute not painted with the flowers in them. If you decide you do want to paint your pot, I normally base coat my clay pot with a cream color but any color is fine. I then will stencil on flowers, add details like vines or little squiggle lines. At the end I will usually sponge the rim just for a little added pazaaz. I also spray my pots with a clear coat for added shine but this is also optional.
Step 6
Place floral tape over the hole inside the pot at the bottom. You then can add your dried beans to the clay pot filling it up about 3/4 of the way. The beans are a handy, economical way to hold the pens in the clay pot, the pens display nicer when they are stuck in the beans. I normally throw away the pen caps because the pens do not dry out when they are placed in the beans but if you choose to put the pen caps on and then stick them in the beans, that works too!
Step 7
You have a beautiful gift to give or to keep for yourself! I LOVE making these and I hope you have a lot of fun with it too!
